The Future of Cloud-Native Infrastructure: Standardization Without Lock-In

Himanshu Singh, director of product marketing at VMware by Broadcom, discusses how organizations are redefining their cloud and Kubernetes strategies in an era shaped by AI, data gravity, and rising operational complexity.

Singh describes a broader industry trend: enterprises want consistency across private cloud, Kubernetes and AI workloads — without losing the flexibility to adopt new tools or run across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Years of sprawling portfolios and loosely connected technologies have given way to a need for integrated platforms that reduce operational overhead and make it easier for teams to standardize on a single experience across virtual machines, containers and AI pipelines.

A recurring theme is the long-standing relationship between hypervisors and Kubernetes. For all the talk about containers replacing VMs, the reality is that most Kubernetes deployments still run on virtualized infrastructure. Singh emphasizes that the goal today isn’t choosing one over the other—it’s delivering a unified operational model so platform engineers and IT teams can support both with the same level of security, automation and reliability.

We also dive into the growing role of AI in infrastructure decision-making. With data sets growing and GPU-driven workloads becoming more common, organizations are increasingly looking for ways to run AI applications close to their data while maintaining privacy and governance. The emergence of Kubernetes AI conformance programs signals how central this workload has become to modern cloud strategy.

Overall, the industry is headed toward streamlined private cloud architectures, deeper Kubernetes integration, and a clear push toward platforms designed to run AI workloads securely and efficiently at scale.
