His approach includes tracking data lineage to detect poisoning, integrating adversarial robustness testing with frameworks such as CleverHans into the CI pipeline and deploying runtime monitors to flag attacks in real-time. This provides a clear roadmap for maturing your AI security beyond simple storage. The essential next step is to actively stress-test your models against adversarial attacks before deployment and continuously monitor their behavior in production for any signs of drift or manipulation.

But what does this new, AI-native developer role look like in practice? Johnson of noBGP argues that AI changes developers’ core function from that of pure authors to something more critical. He explains that developers are now becoming ‘curators and auditors of machine-generated code’. In this role, they must be trained to treat AI suggestions with skepticism and to think like system designers again, because AI on its own lacks the architectural intent that secure systems depend upon. This provides a clear mandate for engineering teams — invest in training that goes beyond tool usage, equipping developers with the skills required to critically evaluate and integrate AI-generated code.
This need for human oversight brings the conversation full circle, reinforcing a principle that Agrawal emphasized from the start.
