WinDocks Community Edition Brings Port of Docker Software to Windows Family
Windows 8 and Windows 10 Gain Server Capabilities
Bellevue, Washington (PRWEB) June 13, 2016
WinDocks has released a free WinDocks Community Edition, a port of Docker software for Windows 8, Windows 10, along with Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2016. WinDocks support of Windows 8 and Windows 10 dramatically expands developer access to Windows containers, adds Server capabilities to Windows clients, and delivers “full Microsoft stack” support for both .NET and SQL Server containers.
The Windocks Community Edition has resulted from developer requests for access to Windows containers, and enables as many as 5 million professional developers to access and explore use of Windows containers (http://www.idc.com/research/viewtoc.jsp?containerId=244709 ). The WinDocks Community Edition removes barriers between clients and servers with identical capabilities, and supports up to 5 containers. With support for the full Microsoft development stack, developers can innovate with SQL Server containers on a Windows 8 laptop with identical images used on Windows Server 2012 or 2016, or in the Public Cloud. The Community Edition supports Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 (and r2), and Windows Server 2016, with .NET 4.5, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008r2, SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2014, and SQL Server 2016.
WinDocks is being adopted to address two primary needs. Organizations use SQL Server containers to improve support for development and test processes. The ability to create identical, isolated SQL Server instances, on a shared VM, in seconds, delivers agility needed for developers and testers in today’s fast paced environment. WinDocks is also used for Continuous Integration, with support for Git and automated build and test processes.
The WinDocks Community Edition is available immediately for download at the WinDocks web site, with an automated install that detects and configures WinDocks on any of the supported Windows environments. It is also available as a pre-configured VM through Amazon’s AWS Marketplace. Visit: https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace
