SUSE Advances Rancher Prime With Agentic AI Ecosystem and Unified VM-Container Management
SUSE announced updates to SUSE Rancher Prime and SUSE Virtualization at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2026, introducing what the company calls the first open agentic AI ecosystem for infrastructure management alongside expanded capabilities for unifying virtual machine and container operations.
SUSE Rancher Prime now includes Liz, a context-aware AI agent that coordinates specialized agents to provide site reliability engineering and operations teams with automated insights across their environments. Through support for Model Context Protocol, Liz can connect to third-party services without custom code, enabling organizations to retrieve and process data from external tools directly.
The company also announced SUSE Rancher Developer Access, which provides developers with access to a curated catalog of more than 140 hardened, enterprise-ready applications including base container images, PostgreSQL, Redis and Penpot. A new virtual clusters capability offers developers fully isolated, self-service Kubernetes control planes for experimenting with AI models and complex workloads without competing for shared GPU resources.
SUSE Virtualization received updates including NVIDIA Multi-Instance GPU support for enterprise-grade GPU partitioning, VM Auto Balance for automated workload distribution, Live Storage Migration for moving data without downtime and granular upgrade controls. The platform serves as an open alternative to proprietary hypervisors, unifying VM and container management.
“Our open approach to AI and the unification of VM and container management allows customers to capitalize on the potential of AI and redefine their own operational simplicity, ultimately giving them flexibility, choice and control,” said Peter Smails, general manager of Cloud Native at SUSE.
SUSE Rancher Prime’s AI capabilities and SUSE Virtualization with NVIDIA MIG support are available now. VM Auto Balancing and Live Storage Migration are in early access.
